After the removal of bunker rakes by golf clubs during COVID 19 restrictions, Rob, a lifelong Melbourne golfer, used his time to develop a personal golf rake that not only solved the risks of sharing equipment, but also focussed on world class engineering to make the idea not only hygienically safe, but also easy to use, compact and durable.
The long term game plan
Traditionally,Clubs have provided rakes for use by golfers as they move through a coursehowever with the events of 2020 there is a heightened sense of multi-personcontact that will force change for the future.
This is where Bunker Buddy® can integrate seamlessly into the game as part of a ‘good change’ process.
Just like how we have adapted to removing single use plastic bags from supermarkets.
Sand bunkers are an intrinsic part of golf course design and are a key influence over how a course is played, this is why Bunker Buddy is here with a long term game plan.
How Bunker Buddy the personal golf rake came to be
Rob’s original plan was to design a golf rake that would protect you into the future as a lightweight, robust and compact golf tool that anyone could easily integrate into their golfing style. Thinking about it, communal golf rakes have been used for a long time. When you start to consider their place on the golf course they constantly go missing slowing down your game, they give you splinters, they can be heavy, and ultimately who really knows where that rake has been.
It was important to us that we worked with local suppliers to create the best possible design solution together, there is something really special in creating design partnerships that are uniquely Australian
Using a local industrial designer in Melbourne, Australia to perfect the functionality of Bunker Buddy® a focus on ease of use, durability and aesthetics was an important part of the process. The final tooling for Bunker Buddy® was manufactured in Adelaide and the moulding of the plastic parts, along with final assembly undertaken on home our home ground in Melbourne.
